How did the APOEL Futsal team manage to return to action and α win Championship after a 3-year absence from the championship?
Let’s start from the beginning…
The futsal department was founded in 2012 and managed to dominate Cypriot Futsal within a few years.
The 2013-14 season ended with APOEL having won its first double, which it repeated in the 2014-15 season. In the 2015-16 season, APOEL won its first treble. The championship victories continued in the 2017–18, 2020–21 & 2021–22 seasons.
APOEL Futsal’s first European participation was in 2014-15, where they passed the qualifying round with three wins and reached the main round of the competition.
However, these were not enough to keep the Futsal team alive, resulting in the department’s operations ceasing after winning the championship in the 2021-22 season.
This situation fortunately did not last long, as in August 2025, with an official announcement issued by APOEL, things turned upside down. The official announcement referred to the reactivation of the department with administrators PAN.SY.FI APOEL and Haris Vassiliou.
It didn’t take long for APOEL fans to support the reactivation of the department and to support the futsal team with their presence, making it a completely sold out stadium at Lefkotheo. The season of return to action could not have ended in any other way than with another championship victory, winning the seventh championship in their history.
As an APOEL fan, I was there to support the futsal section of my team.
